Island Solar System

Tuesday, 19 August 2014

Island inverters are used in isolated systems where the inverter draws its DC energy from batteries charged by photovoltaic arrays. Many stand-alone inverters also incorporate integral battery chargers to replenish the battery from an AC source, when available.

Normally these do not interface in any way with the utility grid, and as such, are not required to have anti-islanding protection. Typically where no electricity is available these island systems are advised, therefore adding the luxury of having electricity wherever or whenever you want it. The intelligent inverter systems can utilise solar, grid power and/or generator power to supplement your battery storage during adverse weather conditions or for night power usage. These intelligent inverters ensure that the power generated by the Island system is more stable than that of generators, and even the national grid, allowing for longer service lives of your appliances.

Expanding an Island system can be done with modular building block methods and does not require you to discard equipment originally purchased from us. Additional inverters are simply added and configured in order to accommodate the function of single or three phase power. Also adding more power is as simple as paralleling the output of the inverters with minimal configuration.

Advantages

  • Modular building blocks, easily expandable.
  • No grid power required. (Independence from rising costs)
  • Use your existing infrastructure, no changes required to your lifestyle.
  • Easily add optional external power sources (grid, diesel generator, or wind power for day or night time energy)
  • Batteries sized accordingly to power usage and adverse weather conditions
